Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»

Student Representation & Partnership

Your Voice Matters

As part of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™s commitment to working in partnership with students, the University provides students with the opportunity to engage in a variety of feedback activities.

Your experience at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» matters – and we want to hear from you.

Whether it's improving your course, creating better services, changing campus facilities, or influencing university decisions, your feedback helps make Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» better for everyone.

There are lots of ways to have your say, from giving feedback on your course or completing a survey, to becoming a Student Rep or Student School Officer, taking part in a focus group, or getting involved in a project that helps shape change at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³».

You don't need to have a formal role to make your voice heard.

What is student partnership?

Student partnership means students and staff working together to improve the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» experience. It isn't just about asking students for their opinions. It means students can help:

  • identify what is working well
  • highlight things that could be better
  • develop ideas and solutions
  • contribute to decisions
  • work with staff on projects and improvements
  • help evaluate whether changes have made a difference

What happens to your feedback?

  1. You tell us what you think
You might complete a survey, speak to a Rep or member of staff, join a focus group or share an idea.

  2. Your feedback is shared
Where appropriate, feedback is brought together with the views of other students and shared with the relevant staff, Schools, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Students’ Union or University groups.

  3. We look at what can change
Staff and students work together to consider possible actions and improvements.

  4. We tell you what happened
We'll share updates on actions and changes where possible.

  5. You can keep the conversation going
Student voice doesn't stop once an issue has been raised.

Get Involved

Become a Student Rep

Student Representatives are volunteers with responsibility for gathering the feedback of their classmates on their learning experience and wider university life. They do this by participating in partnership at grassroot level and engaging in institutional quality assurance and enhancement processes. The representatives work closely with the university and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Students' Union to facilitate enhancement activity and improve student experience across various schools.

At the start of the semester, your Course Leader or lecturer will speak to the class about becoming a Student Rep. Most classes will select their rep on a volunteer basis, so if you want to get involved, let your Course Leader know!

Become a Student School Officer

Student School Officers are lead representatives within each Academic School. Your primary function will be to engage with and support the team of student representatives within each School, acting as a key point of contact between fellow students, academic staff, the Student Partnership team in Student Life and the Students' Union.

We are committed to working with students as partners in improving the student experience. This role is an integral part of that commitment, reflecting the values of 'Partnership at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»'.

Applications to become a Student School Officer open in March. Look out for announcements via the Students' Union on how to make your application.

Following application, candidates will be invited to a short interview with a member of their School Management Team and the Student Partnership Team.

Successful candidates will be informed before the end of Semester 2, and will take up their post in Semester 1 of the following academic year.

Why get involved?

Being a student representative or Student School Officer isn't just about helping others. You'll have opportunities to:

  • Build your CV
  • Develop communication and leadership skills
  • Meet new people
  • Gain experience of working with staff
  • Improve the student experience for current and future students
  • Influence change at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»
  • Gain recognition for your contribution
